NIOSH plans to add sharps, body fluid exposures to health worker safety surveillance

NIOSH wants to add new modules about exposure to sharps injury and blood and body fluid exposures to the Occupational Health Safety Network (OHSN), a voluntary surveillance system developed specifically for health care personnel. The system currently tracks three major categories of possible injury to health sector workers: slips, trips and falls; musculoskeletal disorders that the agency says result from patient handling and movement events; and workplace violence.
